I think it does that in order to act as a way to stabilise a screw so you don't need magnetism to hold it

I'm a commercial plumber and stumbled upon Klein tools at home depot looking for a light for my hard hat and saw they made them and it was priced right and rechargeable. I love it and bought another one for back up. I removed the straps and they have a magnet on the back so I epoxied the light bracket to the front of my hard hat and change out when one needs recharged . It's also nice that it's magnetic especially since commercial is steel framing.

I found an older version of this (without the sliding part) inside an AC unit 5 years ago. Feel bad for the guy who left it there, cause it's pretty great

I use this thing every day, best pocket screwdriver I've ever used

That slide mechanism is to hold the screws when installing them in tight places that your fingers can't reach easily. I've had small screwdrivers in my pockets and never had a problem with holes in my shirts or getting poked with the tip.

My favorite for wiring terminals in panels. Don't put too much force on the tips as the center will let loose. Also the detent that holds the shaft will wear out easily

I have had 5 of these. Well worth. Just dont use em to pry open anything. The metal will warp &the shaft will be lose &fall out on its own.
