Before You Sell Your Rift S, Watch This

After testing out the Quest link and hand tracking, I think there are some overblown thoughts about the Quest VS Rift S in terms of PC playability. Don't go out and sell your Rift S because the quest is about to have PC support, you still have a superior PCVR headset with the Rift S. Seriously.

I ordered the Rift S yesterday and this makes me feel even more confident that I made the right choice. Can't wait for it to arrive. My first VR experience ever!

IMHO, what Oculus is trying to do is expand their casual market as much as possible. The average person is much more likely to buy an all-in-one solution rather than a more specialized one.
Obviously, the Quest is a great piece of tech, but the Type-C connection isn't enough to transfer the data that a USB3+DisplayPort can handle. Maybe with a next-gen cable type we can have an AIO solution, but right now, the Quest is more like a "average in all fields" and the Rift S is more like a "great for A, bad for B".

I feel extremely satisfied by my Rift S and I don't think that expanding *any* headset's availability and capabilities is a bad thing.

The more people get into VR, the better for everyone.

I would imagine, after handtracking has been polished, and greatly improved it would be implemented into the Rift S.

I just bought a quest 2 and watchibg all your videos in order from the beginning to absorb all the history of VR. I have to say, talking from "the future", handtracking in quest 2 on June 2023 is MAGIC. I can't believe we can do Minority Report stuff for 350 Euros. It is just amazing.

step 1. Keep rift S.
step 2. By the Quest 2 when the Rift S will truly be killed off.

I still have my rift s, not modded- completely stock, still works amazingly! ive been using it for 6 years now and its NEVER failed me. I'm still not even debating upgrading until something that actually wows me or has all of the features I want releases.

I actually sold my Rift S and bought a Quest the day after the announcement. I do have some regret, for many reasons.

1. None of my games were cross-buy. I had to buy a couple new games on top of spending a little more to get the Quest.

2. Not as comfortable as the Rift S, and the resolution isn't as clean. The resolution is technically higher (and I actually like the new colors), but the pixels are extremely visible compared to the Rift S's sub-pixels.

3. It looks and acts more closely to a Go than a Rift, which makes me feel like I've closed in my experience.

I'm sure once the cable comes out I'll be happy with my decision, and I'm slowly growing to the Quest, but I do wish I'd kept my Rift S a bit longer. There's a handful of new things I love about the Quest, but there's still a handful of things I gave up.

Personally I'd wait until the cable comes out if you really wanna sell your Rift.

I’m one of the few crazies that did the reverse: I returned my Quest for the S. I have the CV1 Rift, and though the Quest has a better display, I did a ton of jumping between both systems and noticed the original rift had more detail and less edge blurriness., even though the quest did have less of a screen door effect. I first noticed it in Rec Room, where I had to get really close to signs to read them on the Quest, while on the original Rift, they were more detailed even further away. That, and the damn front heaviness of the Quest made me want to go back to the original Rift. My Rift S arrives tomorrow. Most of my VR gaming is sitting down anyway, so I’m not one who cares about being tethered. Still, the Quest is very impressive unit! Great, informative video, btw.

Got to love quest fans pushing rift s prices down; as a rift s buyer, it's a win for me. Actually, couldn't wait longer and bought one from local store outlet and saved 60€.

I own both Quest (w/ Link Cable) and Rift S. I play Rift S more. The visuals are clearer on the Rift S and PC VR play is more fluid.

This whole video can be distilled down to this one, irrefutable point @7:44 PC VR is still and always will be the MOST powerful and best High-End option to play VR. If you're looking for the absolute best possible VR experience, it's still on PC, not stand-alone, even with a tether or link. It's all about that raw processing power of high-end hardware.

If oculus wants to still make the rift s relevant, they would make the quest only work with oculus store.

Hopefully that isn’t the case 😬

I totally bought rift S after watching people's vr vids, including yours. It's been around a week now since I've got it and I can tell it's great, atleast for someone that's new in vr world. The graphics are great, sometimes you get lost in how that big abyss ahead is only a digital image and you are scared to go through it. Controls feel amazing even though it's still with the controllers, you can even use your fingers to type etc. as long as you are also holding the controllers so hey, it's fun. Tons of fun ^^
