You can pickup the crowbar at the storage room, putting the cart with the sample on a determined spot you can get the vortigaunts that appear during the scene to not despawn, there is also a guard in the next room which you can bring to be killed by the vortigaunt, which therefore gives you access to the pistol early making the crowbar at the storage room equitable, because of this trick you can beat the entire game without the crowbar
