Either way he basically got it right trying to taste the $10 difference between two cheap 12 blends of Scotch is practically impossible. He knew which one was "good" And which two were definitely not on the same level.

Blue Label is great, but insanely overpriced. Chivas 12 is a good blend for the price.
Buchanan's, for me, isn't worth anything.

JW Blue was my first expensive Scotch, and yes.. It does have a lot going on in the glass.... But it is still one of my favorites and most often enjoyed "higher end" Scotch.

I used to be a professional alcoholic and loved trying out many expensive brands and I found that at least when it comes to booze... you get what you pay for. That being said... I preferred Martini & Rossi Aste Spumante to Crystal Champagne. Which I had my first bottle while sitting under the Eiffel Tower in Paris and then had an epic game of shot checkers with my sister where we burned through two bottles of it. Tasty but I liked the sweet bubbly personally.
