New Audi S8 Autobahn review

This is the newly-updated Audi S8, and Mat’s on a mission to see whether it has what it takes to compete with the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes S-Class!

For starters, let’s kick off with what you’ll find under the bonnet! The A8 range kicks off with a 3-litre V6, but this S8 offers a whole lot more. Right here you’ll find a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 that can put down 571hp and an eye-watering 800Nm of torque!

Even if it’s pretty heavy, this luxury behemoth can still reportedly hit 60mph in just 3.8 seconds! But then again, that’s the least you’d expect from a car that comes with a starting price that’s north of £100,000…

And of course, when it comes to the interior you know you’ll be treated to high-quality materials throughout. Sure, not too much has changed compared to the previous version, but that’s no bad thing! From the dashboard upfront through to the middle seat closing mechanism in the back (trust us on this one), this is one of the most luxurious interiors around.

The only question is, is it time for people to pick the S8 over the S-Class and 7 Series? You’ll have to stick with Mat to find out!

Can carwow consider doing pop-up figures for the guys who prefer the metric system whenever fuel efficiency figures or distances are shown in miles or gallons. It would be great to see kilometers and litres for those of us who grew up using that system.

I love the S8. It’s definitely the best looking of the three german luxury limousine’s. And that V8 sounds lovely.
I also like the chrome trim. Im usually not a fan but it fits perfectly on the S8.

Maybe I am dumb and don't realize.... Look I LOVE all cars. And I've always been a hardcore Benz guy for many many years, but this S8 absolutely kicks the 7 series and s class in thier butts, I think the S8 is very great

I love the S8, anyday compared to its competitors. I find it more practical and the under-the-radar feel...just more like it. Especially here in Kenya where I come from, these luxury cars take a beating due to our roads and all!

It was just amazing to drive this beast and with the adaptive suspension and the four wheel steering I feel like I was driving an S3. Cheers!

A8 definitely. 7 series is becoming too crazy designing. Not subtle anymore like the old 7 series. A8 has kept that conservative and conceptual design. Keep it up Audi!

Just yesterday i saw one of those on the road. Now our roads are lightyears away from German roads and to watch this suspension work really hard was incredible. Idk if you can feel it inside the car, but for an outside observer it's striking AF. It was almost like i was watching the BOSE suspension video from 15 years ago. The wheels move up and down like crazy, but the body stays levels as a plank. Probably could drive with a full glass on the bonnet and it will never spill. Just incredible.

Amazing review Mat....what a fabulous car. I still have a 2013 A8 and it is by a country mile the best car I have ever owned/driven
