September is National Sexual Health Awareness Month. Women's sexual health is an important issue in the mocha mama community. The Mocha Women's Health Primer is on a mission to promote women's sexual health matters. We are committed to doing the necessary work to stop sexual health silence. Black sexual health is an important public health issue for our community. Did you know Black people are by far the group most impacted by HIV infection in the United States? Per the CDC, in 2018 we made up 13% of the population and 42% of all new HIV diagnoses. Black women are the group the hardest hit with an infection rate 15x that of white women and 5x that of Latinas.
In today's video, we give you the tools you need to fight HIV with PrEP-HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis. PrEP is a powerful and underutilized tool in the fight to protect Black sexual health. With proper use, PrEP can prevent up to 99% of new HIV infections. Remember that 2018 stat that indicated 42% of all new HIV diagnoses were in the Black community? Guess what percentage of our community used PrEP for HIV prevention during that same time period? 5.9%.
Silence perpetuates stigma.
Silence contributes to the 42%.
No more sexual health stigma.
No more sexual health shame.
Enough is enough.
Join the fight to protect Black sexual health.
