IAS – The International AIDS Society, in partnership with the People Living with HIV Stigma Index, organized a webinar titled “Addressing internalized stigma and understanding the importance of language in the HIV response” on 3 July 2024. It is the second in the “Shifting mindsets” webinar series on stigma. The series aims to personalize data through human stories, illustrating what research findings on stigma and discrimination mean in the real world for people living with HIV. This webinar was Moderator by IAS President Beatriz Grinsztejn and featured perspectives from Nadine Ferris France (Beyond Stigma), Diana Weekes (TTCW+), Yvonne Gilleece (People First Charter) and Sungano Bondayi (Zvandiri).
The panellists focused on successful strategies to reduce the negative impact of internalized stigma and discussed the importance of stakeholders in the HIV response using respectful language to support the dignity and agency of people living with HIV.
