i checked a few videos to fix the problem with that error.. and none of them worked.. YOUR'S WORKED. After i did Option #2, to allow access to my USB Microphone. then when i pressed record, the error message stopped popping up and allowed a recording to be made. Thank you so much for posting this video

Not sure why, but I had to enable Stereo Mix in the devices to get rid of the -9997 error.

I uninstalled out my computer was 64 bit...downloaded that 64 bit version. Followed the prompts and my Audacity records again. I had backed up my files...however it looks as though the files left alone when I uninstalled.
