I find it kinda cynical that a school named after a famous socialist only recently became tuition free

Yet, they call USA as the "land of opportunity". Makes me giggle.

There are preparatory schools for foreigners that cost the same as university tuition! You do one year there and then pass the exams and can go to university. Since university is only 3 years in Germany, it shouldn’t take you too much longer although learning German is tough. It’s doable though!

Only for public universities, if you want to study a special niece, you have to get into public universities, which is really hard or pay lots of money to study on a private school

In Russia there are surtan amount of budget places for each major at every uni. And if you can’t get to specific uni you want on budget you can apply to another one. You just need to pass high school final exam of subjects this major requires with high score. And even if your scores bad you can pass exams again next year or try another uni/major with same requirement exams. Or usually you pay for semester/year and if budget place got free during that time you can apply to take it

I love that in these videos they never seem to mention that getting in is the xtremely hard :)
You have to be very smart to get into public uni. If ur not the best of the best, they're not taking you.

but! you don’t get paid any social money because “ if you can afford university you can afford to work”. that’s how universities are in germany. those who choose to study still get into debt because social money doesn’t apply to them.

Germany is very strict about your undergraduate being the same as your masters. I’d say the US is the land of opportunity.

Yes, it’s not that simple tho.
If you are low income and need Bafög (financial support, that you have to pay back) you’re able to rack up debt anyway.
Usually it’s capped at 10k
(But there are instances in which it can build up more and more)

So please keep that in mind.
It’s SO MUCH LESS than murica, but still. It’s not free free.

not gauranteed you'll get in, especially at places like udk. If you're graduating documents to go to uni don't match those required (normally an abitur) and the buro that handles it state to state doesn't determine your scores good enough to be recognized as Abitur then I believe you're just at the whim of either going to a private uni (where it does cost money, but not as expensive as in the US z.b) or just taking exams to get it recognized. This is all to say that, uni is free sorta, but if you didn't practically grow up in Germany, its super stressful to even get in.

Tuition free just means government control of universities and tuition costs are replaced with a lifetime of high taxes.
Is it moral for the plumber to pay each paycheck of his life for his wealthy neighbors to get multiple degrees and become stay at home parents?

Yeah but Americans do get universal free healthcare

Doctors in the US earn almost twice as much as they do in Germany and we’ve had six times as many Nobel laureates in medicine. In certain fields, American medicine is by leaps and bounds the best in the world. For example, averaging across all prognoses and all socioeconomic classes, you are about twice as likely to die from breast cancer if you get it in Germany vs. the US (9% mortality vs 17%).

Germany’s system is great but let’s not forget the strong points of American medicine. Our insurance system is baffling, unconscionable, and preys upon the poor, but in a very real sense we have the most advanced medical infrastructure in the world.
