I'm a politically minded, left leaning, working class man from yorkshire, and I can honestly say that, although most everyone I know is working class and would say they lean to the left, not one of them care about cultural issues in the slightest. They don't care about rights for the LGBTQ+ community, they don't care about political correctness, they don't care about conflicts in europe or the middle east, and they absolutely don't care about what was said in this or any week's PMQ's.

What they DO care about is the insane amount of work they have to undertake in order to keep a roof over their heads, the equally insane cost of food, and the ever-rising cost of their household bills. That's it.

I would say yes, the left are out of touch, largely because so many on the extreme left see the world through the lense of identity politics, which is then combined with, at times, an overwhelming attitude of entitlement and demonising anyone in disagreement.

I would also argue, though, that it doesn't necessary help to discuss "the left" whilst talking about America's Democratic Party or England's Labour Party, because any party that demonises the elderly, disabled and foreign can't really be classed as left wing, to my mind.

Like I say, I'm politically minded. I care about issues like the genocide in Gaza and the alarming shift of the western world towards right wing ideologies, but for the left to be effective and get back in touch with itself, it needs to remember that most people don't care about that stuff. They just want an affordable life and a fair wage.

Everything else stems from that and you should address the wealth inequality first.

That's the problem. Most people see the bills and think "if only tax was less" or "if only xyz group wasn't taking the jobs" or "the government should be helping me instead of these weirdos.".

The system is broken and it isn't getting better.

How is this even a question? I live in a deep blue city, Worcester, MA. At the bottom of my street I’ve got an open air drug market, people shooting up openly and the cops don’t do anything. It’s not worth it, they’re not gonna get prosecuted so why waste your time? Our cars have been broken into roughly 4 times a year for the past several years. Cops come through, nothing happens. Massachusetts is a right to shelter state, so with all the immigrants coming in due to the Biden administration policies we now have entire hotels rented out by the state on the taxpayer dime with all the residents using EBT cards. We’ve had enough. You hear it everywhere, you can hear people whispering to each other the things that they can’t say openly. The silent majority showed up for Trump. It’s that simple.
