Many of the world's airlines were only just taking their first steps towards economic recovery when the Omicron variant was identified in November.
Since then, flight bans and tougher testing rules have dealt another huge blow.
One of the airlines facing enormous challenges is the Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific.
And questions are now being asked about its ability to survive.

Al Jazeera’s Britt Clennett reports from Hong Kong.

I used to fly Cathay Pacific, San Francisco to Hong Kong when I was a kid.... It was always top notch and I remember it being one of my favorite airlines!

30 years ago Cathay Pacific was a world class airline.
Now it is like a european airline klm, basic and low class. Also HK is all but closed to visitors.
They are hurting themselves.

the great decline of Cathay. Back in the early 2000s everyone was flying Cathay if your end destination was Asia. Today you fly Emirates or some other arab airlines. In Asia itself you fly with local airlines. Jin Air in SKorea, Vin Air in VN etc. etc. Which means if you travel to and from HK you fly Cathay.... but no one wants to go to HK. Not with it being gripped to death by Carrie "CCP Pig" Lam. Add the rona and Cathay might die for good.
