When You See A HIGH HEART RATE

Tachycardia is when the heart rate is too fast. Tachycardia can be causes by a primary tachycardia for example someone in rapid atrial fibrillation. There can also be secondary tachycardias for example someone who is in severe pain so they're heart rate increases.

One paramedic labelled me as having anxiety when I had shortness of breath, cardiac cough, pink sputum, and we were on the way to the hospital. No honey it wasn’t anxiety. It was a full on heart attack. Quit labelling people with anxiety when it’s actually something more!

When I was in paramedic school, the rule is we treat the patient not the machine

One time, I heard from a colleague, the doctor in the ER was checking the pulse on the femoral artery and instructed the team to do CPR, the guy is fighting them off, yes the guy who the doctor couldn’t find a femoral pulse is fighting them off
The doctor defibed the patient and ended his life. If a patient is fighting you, he has a pulse, I heard that doctor got fired and had pending charges, NYHQ in 2007

It all comes down if their STABLE or UNSTABLE, and a thorough Hx and Assessment, could be sinus tach needing fluids, stable = pharm route unstable= getting the cable it all depends

I was at the hospital a few days ago and my heart rate was around 120 and I found out it was because of the Benedryl they gave me, so it could be because of that too.

Throw a pulse ox on while your getting the leads out and untangled and on the patient. That is a great way to get a heads up of what you have going on. If it’s bouncing all around, Maybe afib. If it’s around 200, maybe SVT… is this 100%, no but it can give you a possible idea of what to expect and get you mentally going in the possible direction of a possible illness.
