Foo Fact File - Useless Moves

A new format in which I explore the weird and wonderful world of the mechanics behind Pokemon. This time find out all you need to know about the least competitive moves!

Celebrate has its competitive uses. When you are about to win a battle, you send out your Celebrate Pokemon and congratulate yourself for winning the battle. Builds confidence and character.

I can't be the only one that things Wailord using Splash should potentially be a devastating attack.

Just because my lead is Magikarp and I Splash my way into battle doesn't mean we can't Hold Hands and be friends at the end of the battle. I mean, we're suppose to Celebrate the fun we have together as trainers and with our Pokemon. DON'T FIGHT THE LOVE. DON'T BREAK MY HEART KELFKI.

It would be cool if they changed Hold Hands to have an actual effect. Maby you could share the users stat changes with an ally or something like that.

You know a move is truly useless when even the master of gimmicks himself can't think of a use for it.  Also I think the Japanese translation for the move "splash" is something like "hop" which is why pokemon like Hoppip learn it.  Did not know it could be learned through breeding though; that was not something I would have ever considered lol.

I don't know that any of these moves are completely useless, if you use any of them and win it'd completely demoralize your opponent. They might never come back to playing pokemon again, meaning you would not only win that battle but every future battle that person would've otherwise had

Awesome vid foo, yeah the Japanese name for the move splash is also used for the word 'hop' so that's why hoppip and other non fish pokemon can learn it. Also correction at 0:59 should be since gen 2 as that's when hoppip the second pokemon chronologically to learn splash existed

What about all the stat lowering Moves like Growl, Tail Whip, Charm etc. Maybe during early game they can be somewhat useful but competitively, no. I've only ever seen one person, ONE person, use one of these moves against me in all my years as a battler and that's when some random ran Charm on a Blissey with Softboiled, Healbell and Seismic Toss. He was actually pretty good at predicting when I'd bring in a physical attacker and used Charm on it. And yes, my rage was real

Actually Foo, splash is incredibly useful, if your opponent specs into t wave you can out stall it easily due the high pp. The opponent will struggle to switch because who on earth would switch on a magikarp, great dishonour. XD

In terms of possibly damaging moves, I would have to say Bide, just because it's so bad that your opponent would surely laugh whilst setting up on your face in your midst of using said move.  Seriously: just don't use it.  That's what Counter and Mirror Coat are for.
