Stanley Tucci is an award winning actor and filmmaker. Nominated for an Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA for The Lovely Bones (2009). The list of outstanding performances is endless, The Hunger Games, Burlesque, The Terminal, and of course The Devil Wears Prada and Julie & Julia, alongside the inimitable Meryl Streep.

Not content with being brilliant on the big screen, Stanley has also won an Emmy for his TV show Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy.

Nick nervously serves Stanley a negroni and Angela prepares one of his favourite meals, spaghetti alle vongole, with clams, white wine, garlic, parsley and crispy pangrattato (toasted breadcrumbs). Stanley is a man of taste, he talks Italian cooking with Angela, the importance of a leather shoe with Nick and casually drops names like Ryan Reynolds, Cher and Judi Dench into conversation. Stanley Tucci is the epitome of a dream dinner party guest.

This episode was released in November 2022 and was the sixth episode from Series 2 of Dish from Waitrose.

We can’t all have a Michelin star chef in the kitchen, but you can ask Angela for help.

Dish is a S:E Creative Studio production for Waitrose

And yet Italian food is arguably some of the most delicious in the world.

Mmmm… it’s not like that everywhere in Italy. Ragù, spezzatino, arrosto, brasato, pollo al forno, pollo in umido, bollito misto, costicine al forno, etc. are all very slow cooking recipes (maybe these dishes are more popular in the Northern Italy, but still)

It’s funny when Brits and Americans discuss the Italian kitchen 😂

Ange put on her lipstick❤ This must have been extra important for her to host this episode of Dish. Or she just fancied a red lipstick😂

I like him….. but what the hecka is he talking about!?! It takes forever to make a good cheese. It takes hours to make pasta noodles from scratch. Takes months to make an olive oil. I think he is trying to say. “If you have lots of money, and a personal shopper, and a maid…… it only takes minutes….. because all the work is done for me and I don’t have to worry about cleaning.” He is exactly right.

Braciole takes a while, good bolognese usually takes a while... Those are honestly the only two dishes I can think of that tale time. Even baking pasta doesn't really take *that* long.

Apart from
Making your own pasta or
Pizza dough 😂

I always assumed it's because of the heat. Like you need something quick, easy and with as little cooking as possible

Making a dough takes time and it's not immediate

Japanese are like that too. Fast and raw. Compared to French cuisine which are more slow and stew

A lot of Italian food ingredients are cured for months and years.

Stanley Tucci is about as Italian as Papa John, why are they listening to him blather on about Italian food.

That's rubbish, my ex was Italian, him and his parents used to spend the whole day preparing the evening meal, sometimes preparing elements of the meal or lunch the night before.

Italian cuisine is the finest in the world. It's fun food, it's family and friend's food, it's social food, it's food with tons of conversation, it's delicious and filling.

Nothing compares to it. ❤

Probably it takes little time if all your Ingredients come from a can or a plastic bag..
Try and cook Italian food from scratch..
