canon 70D user here (and new to photography). the a7R is slightly out of my budget for now but Sony keeps bringing good stuff to the table!

In 2013 the A7R was a dream camera but too expensive to me at that time, especially with the two dream lenses the Sony Zeiss 35mm f2.8 and 55mm f1.8 but in 2024 I managed to buy a “like new” set for a much more affordable price. So, I have a dream set and I am super happy. The biggest mistakes Sony made (1) A7 cameras were made bigger and bigger with bigger and bulkier grips. The elegance of the sleek A7 design evaporated. This was the main reason I picked the original A7R. (2) Sony stopped supporting in-camera third party apps, enormous disappointing mistake.

Great review as always, Marteen. :-) ...Question: Considering that today you can get the sony A7 (not R) for 800us do you think it is still a better alternative than the newer Fujifilm X-t10/20 or the Canon M6 for street and portrait photography (all equipped with prime fast fixed lenses)? Thanks!

Thanks for directing me here. Really good and informative review. As I mentioned in the comments on your A6000 review, I can't decide between the A7 and A6000. A7R is a little out of my price range, and I don't really need the extra resolution. The main reason I'm considering a full frame camera is the increased image quality in low light when the ISO goes up.
All the cameras I've had in the past have been APS-C, and I've always felt that from iso 1600 and up the noise requires too much post processing. From what I understand, that is one of the biggest advantages you get from a full frame sensor.
I know it might not be easy to just pick a camera and say it's the "best", but for arguments sake let's say that the A6000 and A7 had the same price. Would there be any reason to still go for the A6000, except for the AF speed?

seems like a quite nice camera, but i don't know. i am just simply sold on my d800, the weight isn't an problem even doe i usually walk around a lot + the weight is an good thing while taking handheld photos in low light, and also the optical viewfinder, from what i have heard the digital ones is slightly laggy in low light. 

it is an problem for future me, either i sell my d800 with the lenses now, or continue on with the d800 and buy more lenses and worry about the mirrorless market in 5-10 years.

What would be the best settings for video with the Sony A7R in general conditions?
I've bought myself a A7R for video (couldn't afford the A7S).
But every video file I have with the A7R looks terrible. Don't know what I'm doing wrong.
When I see the video captured at the end of this video it looks great.
