Minor correction: Boeing had 5 ADDITIONAL years to get their ship together. That was after an initial 5 years of development.

Only Boeing can get away with 2 billion over budget, failure in space, and still have a contract

'Something Weird Is Happening With Boeing's Starliner' There's nothing weird about it. It's what people normally call FAILURE.

Windows are literally falling off their planes mid-air. Why did anyone expect their spaceships to be any better?

Boeing is just making excuses. Those astronauts must be stressing their buts off.

3 weeks and they still need to collect data means 1 of 3 things:
1) More problems are cropping up adding to the complexity
2) it's the same problem but they still have no idea what's going on
3)Nothing has changed but they have lied about the severity of the problem and are stalling until something can be figured out.

if they think it's going to fail, just fill it up with trash from the ISS and send it back, if it fails, at least the trash would have been disposed of. the Astronauts can come back on a SpaceX capsule.

Time to take prudent precautions. Send the Starliner off on its own and have SpaceX come and get the astronauts. This isn’t/wasn’t going well and I don’t think things will change.

Boeing is not a company that is data driven. You can't have issues and then say "we are letting data drive our decisions". To be a data driven company, it is a core component from the start of any project or company, not just when you need it.

Stuckliner needs to be cut free to re-enter on its own and a rescue mission for the astronauts.

It's tragic what happened to Boeing. From engineering first to spreadsheet first.

If they are data driven, why did they launch with a helium leaks.

Boeing is bullshitting. Being a rocket scientist myself, I can assure you they know the root cause. But fixing it would require firing people fairly high up the hierarchy, and companies like Boeing almost never do that. They need time to concoct a semi-convincing cover story. Fact is, a human-rated capsule has a design process 10 times more anal than an airliner's, with traceability of decisions and actions all the way down to single lines of code or individual screws. Boeing would rather protect a few employees who don't deserve their jobs, than do the right thing... because Boeing execs set the rules and they are exactly the kind of person who would need to get fired. FFS even an upstart like Musk managed to make a reliable space capsule while fighting flame wars on social networks. I'd say it's not rocket science except of course it is, but you get what I'm saying.

Get SpaceX to pick up these astronauts on their routine space bus service.

Do they really want to take a chance with that death trap? If it was me, I wouldn’t step foot in that thing knowing its history.

Who wants to wait for a Dragon to return us home, raise your hand now. Just be aware Boeing's track record with planes right now is in the can. Can I see those hands again?

If I was one of those astronauts, I wouldn’t get back on that thing and demand they bring me back with SpaceX.
