$50 can go a long way when it comes to getting a quality laptop. A @Lenovo #ThinkPad T420s can be acquired for around that price now and can run #Linux with ease. A second life for some excellent hardware.

In europe this would go for 150+€. I also tried to talk sense into someone selling their T410 on facebook marketplace for 250€ and their response was "I'm giving it for dirt cheap considering I bought it for 400€".

Have same one with me and m running windows 10 with an SSD and 8gb RAM. Pretty solid machine.

I had a ThinkPad T420s. Paid about 120 CAD$ for it, and it was in excellent condition. XP, Vista, 7, 8.1, and 10 worked perfectly fine on it. I still can't believe how I managed to get a T420s for 120$ and it being in excellent condition.

I have several similar laptops (T420, T420s, T520, bought used in 2014) and I find that they run Windows 7 without issue (acceptable, and I'm fussy). The T520 has even been equipped with a Blu-ray drive and SW and plays Blu-ray disks perfectly fine. SSDs and maxed memory helps. The T520 was my workhorse daily driver until around early-2022 I think. Even 8h of Work From Home remote desk-topping into work. Point is, Linux isn't necessarily the only option.

old ThinkPads like this are overall just way better than a lot of the shit you can buy now, my T410 cost me about $60 and with an SSD, runs Windows 10 LTSC just about perfectly.

On an Ebay bid, I got an HP Elitebook convertible tablet with a second gen i5, for $8.50.

i used a t510 and t410s during quarantine, the t510 had an i5 1st gen and it was sloow until i upgraded the ram to 8 gb and put and ssd in it and i think i replaced the thermal paste. the t410s ssd died of overheating, and i sold the t510 for more than what i paid for it

With that I5, you as well can run Windows perfectly fine and enjoy everything on the Internet among all your productivity or media needs, too. You can also do some real work on that machine once you install Windows on it. One hundred percent unsure what's that linux BS here.
