Ok, the "take any part a half step down" completely changed the way I look at dominant chords. They come in three families that can 2-5 their way to 3 families of tonics...mind blown

The half step "resolution" of the diminished chord was one of the building blocks of Robert Schumann's style. An easy way to modulate.

From a dim7 the notes a half step down are the roots you can create your dominant b9 from and notes a half step UP are the tonics you can resolve to ❤

The dim7 can do that because all the notes are the same distance from each other, making every note a possible root. And it has two tritones, R-5th and 3rd - 7th
