Also, new concrete slabs take many months to fully dry out. Rule of thumb I've heard is, for each inch of slab thickness, add a month to the total "dry" time. It also means, if finishing a basement 5 months into a new build when there's a 12-inch slab, make sure there's a way for that moisture to come out and also for any resulting humidity to be removed.

Mine was built in 2005. Did the bag trick and came up damp. I definitely used a subfloor. I wanted to put in heated flooring but was afraid the dampness would ruin it so basic subfloor it was!

Make sure to seal the entire edge of the plastic against the floor, so the water vapor doesn't escape.

Used a piece of 6 mil poly and taped it down. Left it a couple days. No moisture but I'm pretty sure my 1960 house has no vapor barrier. Having said that I did all interior waterproofing and I will still use DMX step 2 under my LVP

Wouldn't that just make the subfloor mold?

I’m reno’ing my basement … full gut … original flooring was water logged. Everything damp, linoleum was wet under neath in laundry room.

I’ll watch for leaks and get those addressed before refinishing.

This full length video was great.

Curious tho do I lay this subfloor everywhere? Even in mechanical room? Do I need the HWT and furnace lifted and dropped on this too?

Just installed some Dörken Delta FL + 1” foam, and 3/4” Advantec subfloor for a customer—the ultimate basement finishing underlayment. (Delta MS for the walls
also)

What can be used on the concrete floor created in 1939 to create a vapor barrier? Will using some type of concrete paint or water proofing paint create the barrier? I am prepping my house for sale just had basement waterproofed exterior and see damp stops in floor. New subscriber...great info

Personally I'd never use anything other than a floating subfloor/floor in a basement. Nothing that nails into the concrete, nothing that glues to the concrete.
Just recently finished filling in and smoothing out all the holes left over by yanking out carpet tack strips from a concrete basement slab. Not fun. Never again.

Can’t you just paint something on the concrete to prevent moisture? Would’t a subfloor just create another layer underneath which moisture will collect?

I am totally thinking my plastic underneath my trailer on top of the dirt is not enough

Does every house in North America have a basement, or is it just colder areas where the ground freezes? I have never seen a house with a basement in Australia.
