Is a 7' basement worth finishing?

Sure, having a 7' basement ceiling height has some limitations. You can’t get a squat rack in there or skip rope but otherwise, there isn't much difference from other rooms.

I’m 6’3” and my basement from finished floor to finished drywall is just a hair over 7 feet and I can say, without a doubt, it was worth doing.

My kids have somewhere to play, I have somewhere to hide, and someone is using it everyday.

Besides, you spend most of your time lounging so the lack of headroom isn’t noticeable.

Just don’t use too many dark colours because it will make it feel small.

The only draw back is that we end up putting to much junk down there but we’re working on decluttering, selling stuff on Facebook and donating stuff.

The big thing is finishing your basement can make your life better.

If this helped you in any way please give it a thumbs up.

Thanks for watching & good luck on your project.

Thanks for your insight. I just bought a home in which the basement is about 6.5ft. I am 5ft 10. I will do the remodel because I want to use the space.

I have a Rep PR5000 6 post squat rack in my basement. 82” clearance. I half rep pullups anyway

Appreciate the honest advice. Im a hair over 6' and was wondering if its worth finishing mine. Currently exposed ceiling but the runners end at a little over 7' so drywall would drop it just a bit.

Thanks for your expertise. Can you recommend a ceiling for my 7' 6" basement ceiling?

I have 2 quotes I'm considering for finishing my basement: one from a national chain that only makes and uses vinyl/metal materials to prevent mold growth (so no wood studs or drywall or anything that's organic) and a second from a builder I trust but he will use organic materials (with moisture barriers as appropriate). I'm torn between these two. Cost-wise, they're pretty identical. Might you have thoughts on which direction to go?

Hello, my basement is a bit shorter than 7 feet tall. Would you recommend not putting a subfloor down in my case? If so, would it be beneficial to put some type of an under-floor heating mat down?

I am having this issue with my home. The unfinished basement is about 6.5' and in places where the hvac system passes, its even lower. I am assuming that the company I get to start this work would figure out how to maximize the head room? Is it best to consider a company that solely does basements?

Your videos are very helpful. How do I put in a subfloor around a sump pump? Is there a way to raise the pump? It’s in the middle of what will be a living space.

New homeowner, just finished demos. Wanting to put a bathroom in the basement. On a septic system, any tips or tricks i should know before breaking concrete? What type or style of pump should i use? Thanks love the videos.

Thank you, this was very helpful since I had been second-guessing myself this whole time!

I have low (79") ceilings and a non-flatish concrete floor. What would be the best option for flooring in my case? I was assuming some sort of DMX underlayment + vinyl planks would work without raising the height too much, but one contractor I spoke with was flabbergasted by that. He wanted to rebuild my foundation and underpin to generate an extra foot of ceiling height. Seems a bit excessive since I only want to have my office + mancave + half bath there. Around 30' x 30' space.

Same contractor also didn't approve of installing a Saniflo incinerator toilet (since below grade) and wanted to break concrete and somehow tied it all to requiring to do the new foundation + underpinning.

I have a question.
What's the cost to dig out a basement an extra foot? Is it worth it? Do you open yourself up to flooding or foundation issues in the future? Thanks

How about if we have an investment property and we wanna carve out bedrooms to rent in a low ceiling basement? Thank for all you to.
