TIRAH Talk 2022: Introduction from Professor Emma Mason

TIRAH is a widening participation organisation. Our focus is on leadership and conversations, both built from critical thinking, empathy, independence, and community. Our motto “conversations not debates” comes from our belief that true and effective action comes from conversations where we listen to understand rather than listening to respond.

TIRAH Talk is a public speaking initiative, where students are asked to respond to a conversation commonly had during higher education. We believe these conversations are not and should not be limited only to university spaces because they are conversations that affect all students as they concern education.

Year One: A Symposium on Education and its Decolonisation.
In its first year, the project was supported by the English and Comparative Literary Studies at the University of Warwick. It was also a recipient of the
Warwick Innovation Fund 2022.
