Title: Introduction to Helio- and Asteroseismology

Abstract: The Sun and stars are not transparent to electromagnetic waves. This means that we cannot directly look into the interior of these objects to study their structure. The Sun and stars, however, are transparent to sound waves. This opened up new fields of astronomy: Helio- and asteroseismology. I will talk about the history, basic principles and the latest results in the seismic study of the Sun and stars. I will also briefly talk about opportunities for international students to study at NAOJ/Sokendai.
