Ever wondered why we calculate a corrected calcium when albumin is low? We’ll cover all the basics you need to know, from why the total calcium changes with a low albumin level to a discussion of the commonly used formula for calculating a corrected calcium. We’ll even walk through an example at the end of the video to see the corrected calcium formula works. All you need to know is the serum calcium and serum albumin to be able to use the formula.

Nice explanation of the calcium components in the blood. However, countless validation studies have disclosed that the usual albumin-correction is diagnostically lacking. Medscape calculator 704 shows a method that, in contrast, has twice been externally validated.

Can anyone explain why that unbound ca wasnt added to the free Calcium pool? And if isnt added to the free calcium and it isnt bounded to the albumin either, then what is its fate?
