Eating ENGLISH BREAKFAST at Gordon Ramsay's PLANE FOOD Restaurant in Heathrow!! London, UK

After 12 incredible days traveling around the West African country of Ghana, my trip was officially at an end. Come with me as I fly to the UK, have a delicious English breakfast at Gordon Ramsay’s Plane Food Restaurant at Heathrow in London, and continue on to Miami!

My evening began at Kotoka International Airport in Accra, the capital city of Ghana. This trip changed my life. It was my seventh African nation but my first time visiting West Africa, and I took full advantage of the opportunity. I dove deep into the culture, food, and history to fully immerse myself.

Travel is always rewarding, and this trip was certainly eye-opening. It wasn’t without its hiccups—learning to navigate locals who don’t want to be filmed or photographed was tough at first, and I caught a brief stomach bug in Kumasi—but it was an experience I would not trade for the world.

Ghana is so unique and diverse. It’s very different from every other country I’ve ever visited. From the modern city of Accra to the markets and craft vendors of Kumasi to the incredible wildlife in Mole National Park, I was in awe of everything Ghana had to offer.

The slave castles in Cape Coast and Elmina were also a sobering and heartbreaking reminder of Ghana’s horrific history. Visiting places where so much suffering occurred is hard, but necessary.

I had a six-hour flight to London ahead of me, and I was excited because at Heathrow Airport, I’d be eating at Gordon Ramsay’s Plane Food Restaurant!

This flight would be packed, which was surprising during COVID times. Six hours later, I was in Gordon Ramsay’s Plane Food!

Gordon Ramsay’s Plane Food is Chef Gordon Ramsay’s first airport restaurant. It’s located in Terminal 5 in Departures. It was the only full-service restaurant in Heathrow when it opened and changed the face of airport food. Everything is paperless, too!

I ordered an espresso and ordered the English breakfast. Then, I met some of the employees, some of whom are Indian expats!

My English breakfast consisted of sausages, bacon, huge mushrooms, tomatoes, poached eggs, toast, and beans. The beans were delicious, and I loved how earthy and tasty the mushrooms are.

I loved mixing everything, especially the sausage and beans. It was a super hearty breakfast and was heavy on the meat. I loved the crispiness of the ham and the runny yolk of the eggs. But my favorite thing on my plate was the beans!

Then, I got some lox, or Scottish salmon. It’s milder and has a higher fat content than other types of salmon. It’s oily and buttery, and tasted incredible with a bit of lemon squeezed on it.

Then, I watched the barista make me a coffee with an African scene and my name on it!

My order came to 27.66 British pounds with the tip included. It was 8:30 in the morning and most of the airport’s stores were closed. There were more people here than there were the last time I passed through after my time in Kosovo.

I went up to the lounge to relax in. Everyone there was spread out due to the pandemic and there were glass dividers. I tried some delicious Nine Elms grape juice and met my server Fatimah, who is from Goa.

Then, I took a train over to Gate C64. There was extra security to make sure you have everything you need to be able to get back into the U.S. I filled out a form and then boarded my 9+ hour flight to Miami.

Where have you been?

The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page. Take only memories, leave only footprints. Love from Korea 🇰🇷💕

Breakfast is sacred. If it doesn't satisfy me, it is highly likely that the whole day will go wrong. I consider breakfast a kind of ritual, a moment in which I become charged with physical and mental energy". Good breakfast! Cheers, Domenico.
