Flea Market Jackpot: Restoring a $20 Grand Seiko to one worth $1,000

Показать описание
This time I'm restoring a vintage Grand Seiko from 1968. The watch was sent to me by Fabrizio, a viewer from Italy. He bought the watch at a flea market along with a few other watches for $20. The seller obviously didn't know what he was selling and due to the condition of the watch, it was actually hard to tell. This Grand Seiko watch had a retail price in 1968 of 40,000 Yen (about $110 at that time) and sells for over $1000 today. The Reference of this watch is 6146-8000 (61GS series) and it´s powered by the Seiko 6146 automatic movement.

I bought a Seiko on eBay for $60 .
I tried to be like you, black finger cots and everything, but I turned the $60 Seiko into spare parts. 😊

Hello gentleman, I am a 22-year-old boy without hearing ability since my childhood, I discovered this channel a long time ago, and I am very interested in your work, I was happy when my close relatives told me that the channel does not have audio as such, only in a few occasions when metals collide, scrape, polish, etc., I am happy to know that you also have subtitles in Spanish since it is my mother tongue, somehow when I discovered it I felt that this channel was made for me, a channel without speaking and with subtitles, which at first I thought that if you commented on it hahaha, greetings and a big hug

I appreciate that you do not add mindless music that many Tubers do... Love your channel!

The glass back is a nice alternative to the original. Great job.

Für mich als Mechaniker, der überwiegend mit großen Dieselmaschinen und hydraulischen Anlagen zu tun hat, jedesmal wieder faszinierend und entspannend zugleich, dir bei deiner Arbeit zusehen zu dürfen. 👍

I know we don't get to see the back of a watch much but I always love transparent back of a mechanical watch.

Beautiful watch. Excellent work as always.

The magic lever was already there. Just incrediable job, I can't stop thinking that for a hobby the quality of the works is at the same level or even higher than professional like the tools. Again of my dream watch, that deserve a second life.

I really enjoy these restoration videos but I could never do it myself too much patience and time.

As a long-time susbriber of MyMechanics this is why I just suscribed to your channel: 1) No audio commentary... just the plain real ambient sound; 2) You have all the equipment/tools needed for a quality work, and; 3) The obsessive patience to make sure it can not be any other than perfect. Seven of Nine would be pleased.

Love the restoration! Thank you so much for sharing this with us. If you know anyone that might work on an Omega MegaQuartz, let me know. STS cannot get parts for it. It runs but just needs a really good cleaning, touch up on the crystal (2 big scratches), and the hands re-lumed.

Superb work. I have an old Seiko diver my Dad bought at the PX when he was in the air force back in the 1960's. I wish I could afford for it to be restored like this. I've always been partial to Seiko's.
