No offense to budget builds but this is a pretty expensive engine. If you wanna risk blowing it up or at worst putting a hole in your engine be my guest. Sometimes this works but you have to take into consideration that this engine still has wear and tear regardless if it was taken care of or not. If it wasn’t taken care of then your definitely going to blow it up. Another thing you forgot on this list is a timing belt and seal replacement kit. If your leaking oil you definitely don’t want to boost it and 90% of is300 you find used leak oil. I hope this helps some of you guys. Just save the money and build it properly and in the end you’ll save money and time. Not to mention more seat time that way. Drive your car stock until you save the money to do a proper build. It’ll give you time to get used to the car in its stock form anyways. You’ll over all appreciate the car more too.

450hp is absolutely the max for this unless your swapping the auto trans and the bottom end, cause the ge Rods will snap, but other then that spot on 👍🏻

I believe that model of is300 was last produced in 2005

This is really the affordable supra now. Remember when the affordable build was to swap it with the gte motor. Now that motor is 7 stacks.

400whp max for a low mileage very well maintained engine. 17psi on a 2jz ge vvti with abuse is going to blow. Pretty much the more you fuck around the more you find out.

Ok fair warning because I've done research and rebuilt this motor, the rods can handle 400 HP, the stock transmission can handle 450 HP.

Things to get

Carillo Pistons SC7472
Manley H Beam Connecting Rods
King Race Bearing for Rod and Main
Brian Crower Springs and Retainers
Coesmic MLS Head Gasket
CX Turbo Kit
Boomslang Wiring Harness Adapter
Stand Alone Unit that works with Boomslang Harness Adapter.

I would recommend switching out the pistons to bigger ones since the 2jz ge ones are thinner than a Supra 2jz

Head gasket is the same so ignore that (both multi layer steel). Forgot to add pistons, connecting rods, and a trans that can hold more than 350hp. The automatic is essentially like glass. I’ve destroyed gs300 doing this so I learned the hard way

The Toyota Altezza is my second dream car ever. Love this car, I will get one soon

I'd like to add all of those things into a Lexus SC300! The underrated 2JZ Supra killer!

ive seen people saying that the airflow ports on the ge are actually slightly bigger on one side which is the only “performance” difference in JUST the block itself and its by 40mm, ive also seen people saying you can just swap the rings and pistons and rods to forged internals and you can make 1200hp off of the ge, but you never know until you do it yourself🤷‍♂️

Everything in the video is pretty accurate except models years for 1st gen IS’ are ‘01-‘05 (chassis started production in ‘96) and all USDM models came with the 2JZ-GE VVTI and an LSD with manual or auto for all years after ‘01 and the power level will be unreliable and a ticking time bomb without upgrading pistons and rods other than that this setup checks out 👍🏾

Pretty much what I'm doing with my 96 SC300 2JZ GE

all that info I very true, only thing I would recommend would be pulling gte rods qnd pistons for a little more reliability

You can put double springs on the valves if your racing to

Yeah those little vvti ge rods gonna leave asap

CD009, LSD, na non-vvti head, na intake manifold because it flows better, and use the older 2JZ bottom end because it has the thick rods that dont break as easily as the later ones. Easy 800whp capable engine and transmission.

As long as you can find the non vvti version itll support 450hp since it has thicker rods. If the goal is 500+, either snag OEM 2jz-gte pistons and rods or aftermarket forged rods and pistons

01-05, auto trans can technically hold more tq but not by much (might aswell have a w55, if you wanna push it w58 or r154 for sure at minimum). CXRacing kit is great, just make sure to get the dual ball bearing turbo if you can't afford a good one, and do not use their bov or wastegate unless you can't afford something better. IIRC its 10-12 psi that can get you to 450 hp
