On June 17th, 1994, TV stations across the United States turned their attention to a low-speed chase involving a white Ford Bronco on the 91 Freeway in Los Angeles. But, shockingly, the white Bronco is not the only piece of history to take place on June 17th, as other important events, including a famous pirate and a vampire, preceded that infamous car chase.

As one more, rightfully unmentioned people who 'happened' on June 17, I want to thank you for this lovely birthday present. I'm going to copy the text and send it to my grand nephew who is a very worthy addition to this historic day. While I was becoming 74 today, he turned 14 and when I look at him I see many more historic and positive events, possibly even taking place in the future on our shared birthday. Happy birthday, Johnnie!

The Taj Mahal was originally going to be mirrored by an identical black marble mausoleum facing it on the opposite bank of the river. But the white mausoleum was so expensive it bankrupt the Raj. When he died he was interred with his wife instead.

Another important event on this day you may not be aware of. It is of great significance to me and my family. On this day in 1957, I was born in the city of Los Angeles, California. It is no longer my home though.

An important happening on June 17th occurred in 2008. That early evening, my first grandchild and only Grandson was born! I'm sorry if this wasn't exactly news worthy, but it was universe moving for my family and

I still wish you had been my high school history teacher. I would certainly have had a much greater appreciation and interest in history had that been the case!

I was living near Philadelphia on June 17, 1994 and headed up to New York after work to spend that weekend with my father. When I got to his apartment, the TV was on--he'd been watching the NBA Finals--and they had the OJ chase in a picture-in-picture view. "You're not going to believe this, " he said, "but a bunch of cops are chasing O.J. Simpson in Los Angeles." Yup, History That Deserves to be Remembered.

Regarding the 1953 East German uprising mentioned at 7:55, the West Berliners named the main road through the Tiergarten park in the middle of the three western zones Siebzehnten Juni Strasse (17th of June Street) to memorialize the event, and the British, French and Americans marched down it every summer in the Allied Forces Day Parade. I was honored to lead the U.S. honor platoon upfront in 1985.

On June 17, 1673, the Marquette and Joliet expedition reached the Mississippi River, exactly one month after setting out from St. Ignace, marking the first recorded Europeans to see the Upper Mississippi River.

My cousin was a DC policeman on duty in the Watergate area that night. Then when Nixon resigned I was a FBI fingerprint clerk.
