I’ve been singing four years as a side hustle and sing a lot whether gigs, fun or practice. I sing a variety of genres and keys. My customers have said they hire me because of my ability to sing variety to reach more people and because I can sing different keys. I know when I’m pushing it and I drop the song from my practice set.

With this being said, I totally agree with you. Thank you for making a short sweet video with excellent advice. I had vocal cord surgery 23 years ago, so caring for your voice is critical. Thanks again.

I agree you have to be able to feel it, or the audience won't. However ; Given individual vocal characteristics, which sometimes aligns more to certain styles.

If you dont sing a genre that suits you or your personality. it's not good 1) When you hear something does it make you feel passionate? 2) Do you find your self humming or singing a certain type of song when you're doing your daily tasks? The reason is you DO NOT want to make your singing session a labour of regime, I need to sing so it's this thing I do everyday at this time, and that's that - You will get over it. YOU WANT to be singing to your self ALL the time but, if you song because you can't help it then in advertantly makes you think about the nuances the tiny detail you hear when singing along to it and attempting to mimic those things that will make your singing better. second thing, sometimes IF you are unintentionally belting then your costing yourself range. All songs you sing MUST have fluidity to the song when singing it, also the rhythm you sing to as well. I tried Jazz for a time. i Never sang it to myself but when I begun doing 90's rock I picked up on a technique that went well with my VSA vocal training, but a litle outside the scope of hat is considered correct. then I could get better. If your genre is not making you relaxed, then when you get infront of that audience you won't do well. Do what yo love and love what you do. ALSO NEVER under-etimate how a favourite singer can be the ticket to helping you understand how to sing. Watch them see what they do. It's never the RANGE a singer you like has to yours either, you have your own unqiue range. singing is really 50% technique 50 % ear. The music will tell you what to do, DON'T force yourself on it.

the problem is i love and enjoy daniel caesar, eminem, pierce the veil, greenday, kurt elling and arctic monkeys. And when i sing, i enjoy all of em and it make me frustrated cause i really want to stick and focus on 1 genre

I love RnB so much... but I can't do those riffs because they say my voice is for the classics which needs a smooth voice like what I have... My voice is not flexible for RnB but I love it...

Reminder: You can any song any genre. However, some voices are suited for a certain genre.

You have Adele's voice that is perfect for the songs she sings. You have Lady Gaga is perfect for many genres. You have Taylor Swift whose vocals don't flow with her songs (Blank Space is the only good one). You have Billie Eilish whose songs are more suited for metal vocals (Ocean Eyes is the only good song since Billie's voice is plain AF).

I like every genre as long as they have a good beat. But after recording many takes, my voice is best suited for classical, soul, jazz, rock, and metal. :)

I think sometimes I'am the most unambitious ha... I really love Rnb, but I grew up on pop/Rock, from Buddy Holly to Van Halen. When I sing something more Rock like I feel energized, the rush, and body movements (I never stand still when I sing) helps me get through a song. My favorite singer is an artist that has a mild flavour to her style, my second favourite has more drive in her voice. I'm not looking to become a high note godess, I like characteristic vocals. I never set out to be a rock singer when I began my journey with VSA, but I'am. I was in a room with bit of reverb at church, For no reason what so ever I sang the chorus to Sweet child of mine strongly. Felt great, sounded good. I think you just know inside when your ready to know...I believe in music if you want to move others, Then you must first be moved yourself.
