Does LASIK last forever? 👀

Nope…

I get this question…All. The. Time.

Ten years ago I got LASIK during my 4th year of optometry school.

I was pretty nearsighted (-4.50 DS OU) and was interning at a large ophthalmology practice in Toledo, OH.

The experience was wonderful and my vision was flawless for years.

However, I knew it was unlikely it would stay perfect in the distance and was perfectly fine with reading glasses when I hit presbyopia.

I'm now mid 30s with more than -1.00 astigmatism in both eyes 😢

Regardless, I love my glasses and contact lenses Rx over not being able to wake up and see across the room!

Did you have LASIK or PRK? If so, what was your experience?

Mine started fading a bit after 14 years, but my eyes are still far better than they were before the surgery. I'll take a minor correction glasses and contacts anyday

I’m 29 and my vision didn’t stabilize til I was 26-27. I have -10 both eyes with astigmatism, legally blind without glasses. Your vision might not stabilize til your late 20s! They told me age was the largest factor of eligibility. Consultation on eligibility was free. Procedure was $3750 both eyes. Doing PRK next month.

Here is the point:the Lasik machine receives your eyes' prescription on the day of the procedure so that's what it corrects. Therefore, what it doesn't correct is the change in your prescription 3 years from now; that is what the Lasik businesses call a "touch up" in their parlance.

If you go to the right place like I did, they offer life time warranty meaning even if you’re eye sigh is perfect until your 40-50 and goes bad by just 0.5, they will do the operation for free. And it’s unlimited amount of times…… to put it in perspective for y’all, People will spend 60k on a car but not 3-4K on their own eyes.

I am going to have lasik in few days. So worried for it. Both eyes have different vision. The glasses are sooo heavy. My head is alwayss hurting.

Had Lasik 25 years ago. It is not permanent. Everyone’s vision declines as we age. It does cause scaring to cornea. Thinning corneas out. It will make cataract surgery more difficult n less precise when the time eventually comes.
Still the best thing I ever spent my money on!.

Don't believe the troll. Everyone who had LASIK done through a reputable company knows touch-up work is available for free, and Lasik comes with a lifetime guarantee.

I've been told by my childhood eye doctor that I would be the perfect candidate for LASIK since my vision hasn't changed in years(this was a few years ago i think it has changed a bit tho but I am older so it's bound to happen), I came across your video doing research and I have to ask, do you think you only got your complications due to your dry eyes? I'm sorry that they ingored your issues and coaxed you into it anyway.

My doctor suggested me to redo surgery as my vision is blurry again after 7 years since the 1st surgery. What do you recommend? I am not really sure of the long term effects for doing it twice!
