While I agree, that the ball valve sometimes is difficult to open/close, mine in the pool never leaked. My hot tub has gate valves and one leaked and it was a major pain in the rear to cut out. I replaced with a ball valve. Seems you bought the better gate valve whose guts can be replaced in situ (you can look up that word :).

Thanks for sharing. Does the gate valve have to be removed for winter? I have the white ball valve and it cracks every year and it is such a hassle to replace since we don't drain down our pool.

I like the idea and agree the gate valves are easier to operate by far. But it appears that they cannot be partially closed while pool is running. Is that true? Also how durable are they? Will they hold pressure all winter when used in main drain line of swimming pool?
