Hawaii is trying to transition to a clean energy future from a fossil-based economy where we basically burn oil for power and also use oil for transportation.

That paradigm creates an enormous opportunity for innovation because we pay a lot for electricity, we pay a lot for transportation fuels, and there's a lot of room there to bring in clean energy. But what we need is innovation because solar, wind, biomass, hydro, geothermal, these technologies are really important to bring at scale but in order to integrate them and to make a fair, balanced, smart system we need the best minds and the best talent and the best innovation to do that.
