This comes from personal experience....I'm 61. My family used to hurt my feelings ALL the time. They caused me so much pain. But I kept going back because it was my "Family" Sometimes the people who are supposed to love you, dont. Yet I felt obligated. Well, one day after realizing strangers treated me better...I had a moment of clarity that came to me in words. "You are only as much a prisoner as you choose to be."
It was freeing....and I left.
