Otis Redding - Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay

Sittin' in the mornin' sun
I'll be sittin' when the evenin' come
Watching the ships roll in
And then I watch 'em roll away again, yeah

I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
Ooo, I'm just sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time

I left my home in Georgia
Headed for the 'Frisco bay
Cause I've had nothing to live for
And look like nothin's gonna come my way

So I'm just gonna sit on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
Ooo, I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time

Look like nothing's gonna change
Everything still remains the same
I can't do what ten people tell me to do
So I guess I'll remain the same, yes

Sittin' here resting my bones
And this loneliness won't leave me alone
It's two thousand miles I roamed
Just to make this dock my home

Now, I'm just gonna sit at the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
Oooo-wee, sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time

*Whistling*

I don't care who you are, this is literally one of the absolutely greatest songs ever recorded.

53 years later and this is the only song that helps me battle depression. This young Georgia boy thanks you Otis.

This was me in 1996. I didn't think I had a future. No one I knew really wanted me around. ("I can't do what ten people tell me to do") If you came here to listen to this song because you feel the same, I want you to know that you have a future, and it will get better, just hang in there.

This was my grandmother’s favorite song. She passed away peacefully September 24th 2021. We got the news as this song played. Sad but happy memories are shared with this great song. Rest In peace Grandma. ❤️

As a kid going to dinner with my parents, this was my mom's favorite song to listen to. They made sure we had a window seat at The Chesapeake Inn in Maryland. The waves would come in under the window at us. It was so amazing to watch the tide roll in. Yesterday was my mom's birthday. She left me in 1981 to become an angel. I think about her all the time, this song brings back many good memories of growing up,

And to think the whistling was just Otis fooling around because he intended to come back to the studio to add more lyrics instead of the whistling, he never got that chance, and that whistling just added to the magic of the song. RIP Otis Redding.

My dad passed on Tuesday 3/22/22. He loved this song so much. It was always one of my favorites after he played this for us. He loved fishing and now he can fish his days out sittin by the dock of the bay. Love you Dad

At 72 years old, I've listened to some fabulous bands and music. There's nothing better than this song.
