So I am a truck driver, and 63, so I grew up with this tune. Well one day I had a delivery in Hayward CA. which is just across from Frisco. So I got there and I was in the industrial section just off Industrial road in fact, and as luck would have it, I had to wait to be unloaded at the warehouse. So I walked in behind and there is this walking path along the bay beach there, so I went for a walk. I found this little pier and went out and there was a bench so I stopped for a rest, and the tide started going I realized then that there I was, "sittin on a dock at the bay, watchin the tide roll away, wastin time" that off my bucket list.

Such a great classic... Rachael Lewallen, jeans rolling up above our calves, shoes off, and our feet just dangling in the water... and just talking about life.

This song came on the radio after my dad passed away. We were picking up his room at the hospital and my mother went to turn the radio off and actually turned it on and this song started. we all stopped in our tracks. Talk about a family having a spiritual moment. This will all-ways be his honor song. thanks for posting.

Coincidentally, I'm from Georgia and I'm in the navy (currently stationed in San Diego) and this song takes me back to simpler time. Nothing wrong with today's time however back then things were...innocent.I was innocent. I'm glad YouTube has this. Im able to come back to it whenever I'm lost and figure it all out again.

Played this at my Aunt's funeral yesterday. She's with my uncle and the Lord now just a smiling and sitting on the dock of the bay.

One my mom's favorites now I listen to it and think of her leaving to go be in heaven and sit on the dock in heaven with the Lord and watch over her babies me and my brother. She's resting her bones she's roamed miles and miles to go to heaven to make that her home.

Here's a fact: Otis Redding was whistling in the end because he didn't know what words to put in there. He was planning to fill in the verse but unfortunately he died in a plane crash 3 days later so he didn't get to have the chance.

R.I.P. Otis Redding
This song is pretty good, though.

Simple song that perfectly captured the overwhelming lonely feeling shared by many, from not finding work or purpose, a journey that started from the east and ended in the west with tired bones sitting at the dock of the bay...it hurt to even see ppl go through it. Wonder who he was thinking of?

The most beautiful and truthful philosophical message i've ever heard in a song. Pure art.
