Stupid Reasons It's 'Wrong' to Ship Characters (r/FanFiction)

Sometimes people don't like what other people ship. And sometimes their reasons for why those ships are problematic are a little strange...

People need to understand that shipping isn't automatically synonymous with sexualising. People also need to understand that shipping is meant to be a fun fandom activity. It's not about what is and isn't canon.

I was called a pedophile for shipping two teenagers. While I was a teenager. And the entire plot of the original series was one of those teenagers being in love with someone

Also that shipping a lesbian ship was fetishizing lesbians. After hearing that, I had to break the news to my lesbian friend who shipped it that she was fetishizing herself

I was told that a ship between 23 and 28yearolds is p**dophilic because we had one flashbacks in the show where the first character was around 15.
Apparently people in relationships don't have childhood and just spawn in the world being already 18

The stupidiest reason I was told not to ship two characters was by my sister and it was "You can't ship these two, you already ship them both with other characters!". Then I had to explain to her what's multishipping

“He has a crush on her! That means you should ship them!”

He likes her, indeed. But he is also incredibly dim-witted and unable to tell when he’s being manipulated. She enjoys using him to do her bidding. Sorry man, I don’t care if he likes her. I’m not putting him into that, I’m putting him to someone who will treat him correctly.
