Harvesting before First Snow

November 20th! This has to be the longest gardening season we’ve ever had here in the Chicago area. Getting the last of the tomatoes and peppers was another priority before snow covered the garden.

I also harvested the salad greens because we needed them for our daily salads, and I harvested most of the Swiss chard because I wanted to freeze it to preserve it for later use.

That afternoon dusting of snow shown in this video ended quickly. But it did snow overnight and through most of Thursday. The snow melted on Friday. Today (Saturday), I harvested all of the remaining hardy vegetables in the six main beds of the kitchen garden, so we could pull everything out and prep them for winter. Stay tuned for that video!

Oops, I got my dates wrong in this post. Wednesday was Nov 20, not the 22nd. That's still an amazing date to be harvesting tomatoes and peppers.😮
