Had a riptide pull me about a hundred yards offshore in PC and thought I was going to die until it let me go. The vertical swim back to the shore was the most exhausting thing I've ever had to do. By the time I made it back, my arms and legs were spent and I sat on the beach going over what had happened and reality sank in. I almost died, holy s**t I almost died. It's one of the most terrifying things I've ever had to face. I'm now more aware of the conditions of the surf and warn others when I see the red flags and remember how the riptide almost got me as well. R.I.P. Ryan

Don't drink and swim is also what should be mentioned. Too many people get drunk and go in the ocean.

People have no business being near the ocean without knowing how to deal with rip currents

Looking back at my 12yr old self barely 5ft girl with blurry vision (wasn't wearing my prescription glasses) It's a miracle I survived a rip current! After almost an hour in the water my limbs were dead weights, I swallowed ocean water, and hands were extremely pruned, but I survived. Thank you to a young lone surfer who help pull me to shore I barely survived.

As a long time big wave surfer 14 years north shore. I have atleast a half dozen near drowns from currents and rip tides. Notably oceanside pier where i would jump off at end of pier to purposely power free swim against rips to traim. Left Spaghetti armed n panting furiously & sandy beach Oahu i should not b alive. Its amazing how we respond to adversity when itslife and death. My prayers and condolences to Ryan Mallet & my hero Eddie Aikao

Rip Currents are horrifying. Twice i have been caught in them under Green Flag conditions (Indialantic, Beach, Florida) I always knew to swim parallel but some tides are 500 yards wide. Really weird how you go from terror and all of the sudden find the sweet spot where it ends.

Rip currents lead to people saying, RIP.

Is the narrator trying to set a record for mispronunciations?

That was sad. 😢 But it all could have been prevented.

I have had a riptide pull me and then my dad told me to come but I couldn’t because I didn’t realize I was in a rip current and a teenager saw me needing help and saved me and my entire family was caught in a current and I was still young so I had no idea what to do and we all are still alive and the thing that makes me angry and wants to sue the entire lifeguard thing is because the lifeguards they weren’t in the water they were waiting there so corrupted.

Just because you can swim don't mean you can't drown

Sherrif's office said rip current was not at fault. Be careful when jumping to conclusions.

Riptides are NOT faster than seadoos. Florida needs more seadoos. And lifeguards. Get on that Governor!
