Ole Miss Rebels QB Jevan Snead was once projected to be a 1st round draft pick from many experts however after a rough 2009 season and a concussion in the 2010 Cotton Bowl against Oklahoma State, Jevan Snead's draft stock plummeted to the point where he went undrafted.

At the last game of my Junior season (highschool), I was on the receiving end of a Crack block which was a helmet to helmet hit. I didn't realize it at first, but my jaw was fractured on the right side. Pumped full of adrenaline and unwilling to leave the field, I was blind sided by another helmet to helmet collision from a shorter player. This caused the left side of my chin to fracture right along a nerve line. I was wired shut for 6 weeks right around the same time Kanye came out with through the wire.. Couple of years later, helmet to helmet hits were deemed illegal on all levels. Still have minor nerve damage though.

I was at that game. It was an atrociously played, error filled game. Those 2 teams beat the living shit out of each other, and it seemed like nobody really wanted to win, they just wanted to hurt each other. I had no idea this happened to Mr Snead afterwards. I offer my sincere condolences to his family and friends.

My son's last year of Highschool a kid on the opposing team was hit in this way and later that night died from the injury. It was devastating to watch and the aftermath was horrible to witness. It devastated both teams.

This is so sad and tragic, Snead was a BEAST and so much fun to watch. Our son was a professional snowboarder for many years, he’s 29 now and has had several concussions. So far he seems to be doing fine, but depression set in about 2 years ago. My wife and I can see that it’s going to be a lifelong battle for him, but we will do all we can to help him.

This is just scary. I played 16 yrs of football....from grade school to the N.F.L. I'm often asked about concussions. Back years ago, you just shook it off the best you could...and lined right back up. I always answer people with....define a concussion. If you consider it "getting your bell rung"....I've had quite a few. I've been lucky. I'm a senior citizen now and suffer only a little memory loss from time to time. This story is, unfortunately, the kind that happens all too often now. Safety protocols for concussions is right up there with the facemask, in making this great sport safer.

RIP Jevan . I played pro long football until I was 40 . In minor league I even founded a team in my state of WV. The WV Storm . At the age of 46 now my memory is shot and I'm showing the first stages of dementia . God Bless this young man's family! God bless all my football brothers out there! #FORTHELOVEOFTHEGAME

This is absolutely heartbreaking. Going from cloud 9 and having such a promised and blessed future ahead of him in the NFL and then one year later, you're forgotten Omg I feel so sad for this poor man and his loving family, this is truly soul crushing🥺

I’ve had two concussions that I can recall. After the most recent one. It’s so hard for me to remember the slightest things from just moments ago of where I put something or why I even came to a room. To the point it frustrates me to tears. I often just stare at my rifle some days and as embarrassing as it is to admit I just stare and cry. Cause I just don’t know what’s going on most the time and I hide it very well.

RIP Jevan! I played peewee football from 3rd grade till 6th grade with Jevan in San Angelo, Texas. He was a good man! I still remember when he beat the Gators the year they were undefeated. He made us all proud! Apaches 4 Life Homie!

I remember watching the spring game at Texas back in the day and I was surprised to see McCoy beat him out. It really was neck and neck. RIP Jevan. Longhorn forever! Gone too soon.

I’m so sorry and sad to hear this. What a tragic story. I was a high school running back/defensive back in the seventies in Seattle. I literally had a concussion and memory loss in every game. They happened easier and easier. Helmet to helmet was how you made the Seattle Center stadium echo. Playing with injuries was just what real men did. I made some newspaper plays by not knowing where I was and somehow it was unexpectedly the best place to be, including in the 1973 Seattle championship against Nathan Hale, which we barely won. The newspaper sighted me as having the key defensive play of the game. I had no clue where I was or what my job was. But I remember the play, and I am thankful for that. My head is not symmetrical now, and I do still struggle with memory. It s more and more concerning as I age.

Damn that is tragic!! I watched him play on numerous occasions and I've never seen an arm comparable to Brett Favre but he had it and he was a gunslinger. May God rest his soul and prayers for his family.

I’m not sure what concussions do long term, I’m not sure what CTE feels like, but I played free safety for Florida state for one year and got a gnarly concussion. I never passed protocol afterwards and was just kicked off the team. They never told me how bad it could be or how hard life could possibly be after. I can’t tell you what I ate for breakfast this morning or what age my daughter took her first steps, but I can tell you that I’ve sat in my truck with a bottle of liquor and a shotgun in my lap more times than I’m comfortable with. When I needed it the most, FSU never helped me. Not even to give me stuff to read about. Big school when it comes to the medical field but when it comes to the football field, you’re expendable. My biggest fear is that my girl will have to tell all her friends in school that she doesn’t have a daddy anymore, that her daddy was found all alone in his truck with a single shot to the chest.

When he was at Texas, we liked Jevan. But, we understood why he went elsewhere and wished him the best. Such a heartbreaking story.

Jevan was born in my home town of San Angelo, Texas and I followed his career. He was a dynamic quarterback and had a promising future. That was all taken away by one brutal hit. RIP Jevan, you gave it your all.
