Gojira performs at the Olympics... and wins a GOLDEN METAL🥇 Olympic Games 2024 opening reaction

Metal band Gojira just performed at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games 2024 in Paris, France. And in all honesty, it was an incredible performance. It had a great balance of being cinematic and theatrical and heavy at the same time, which once again shows that Metal can and should be given more attention at such events as the Olympics of Super Bowl.

I’m an American mom who doesn’t listen to metal, but this was my favorite part of the opening ceremony by far! I wish I was there in person to really hear it full volume! It was just so unexpected and really felt like the sound of war.

It is important to point out that the scene with Gojira was representing the revolt spirit of French people, from the 1789 Revolution to this times' strikes and other protests. And to chose the best French metal band to emphasize that on this world stage, on this iconic building, is something that I, as a French metal fan, am overwhelmed !

A bit of context regarding the performance:

The song: "Ca Ira" is a revolutionary marching song. Sort of a versatile phrase, it can mean "it will be alright", "That's it, I'm fed up" etc. In this case, it's the latter. It talks about hanging aristocrats to street lamps.

The place: The Conciergerie is built on what was first a roman fort (between the first and third centuries) then a royal residence (under the Carolingian dynasty). It alternated roles between royal court, court of justice, prison, and early parliament. During the revolution, it was a prison, and the last place Marie-Antoinette was put before being condemned to death and executed.

The lyrical singer: marina Viotti has quite a varied repertoire under her belt. She graduated conservatory with the flute, then decided to explore different things, including Jazz, Gospel and ... Metal.

I'm 68 and I've been listening to Metal and Hard Rock since 1969 or 70. It was Steppenwolf, Iron Butterfly then. I'm a Huge Symphonic Prog Metal fan now like Dream Theater, IQ, Threshold, Epica and Nightwish. So now I wonder how many kids saw a Metal band for the first time ever and are saying I Love that and I want to do that!!!
