Bill Moore- 'Little Delia'

"Little Delia" is Blind Willie McTell's version of a song with origins in McTell's home state of Georgia. The true story behind the ballad is very depressing; a fourteen year old Delia Green was shot by fifteen year old Mose Houston after the couple got into an argument. Like many sensational news stories, the murder was retold in song form and has been performed by Reverend Gary Davis, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Pete Seeger and a slew of other musicians. This original story doesn't seem to have much bearing on the version Blind Willie McTell--or any other singer for that matter--relates.
I have tried to use McTell's verses in this song but I didn't pay particular care to include them in a specific order, so I probably left some of his lines out.

That was a mighty snappy tempo! Challenging to know where to take a breath for the singer!

The song portrays Delia as covering a lot of ground for a young teen. Was this the inspiration for the Rounder Records label? This ballad describes a winnowing of the rounder population, a dangerous and endangered species of humankind.
