I do it 3X a week, Monday, Wednesday, & Friday. I was lucky enough to avoid it for my first transplant in 2008. I had a living donor, & it lasted just shy of 14 years. Unfortunately, I've now been on it for a year, waiting for my second transplant. The immunosuppressants don't bother me. What bothers me is that someone has to die in order for me to go on. My potassium is so low that the dietician has pretty much released me from any potassium restrictions. That's good in the sense that I can eat potatoes AND pumpkin pie when Thanksgiving rolls around this time. 🤤

my aunt is currently going through this since coming out of the hospital

she got sepsis from an animal bite and has to get her foot amputated

im grateful she survived and i want to see her thrive from this because she has always been struggling with her health

I would never get a fistula( it requires surgery to attach your vein to an artery.
Resulting in.
A big water hose looking lump in your arm that allows dialysis. To be done at a faster rate than normal veins). I have had 7 catheters in my heart in 5 years. The surgery hurts, but I'm not mutilated or fasing the danger of that big bulky vein getting injured. I knew two people who died from fistula before I started dialysis.

Because I have horseshoe kidneys, I can’t donate because they’re fused together - hence the name horseshoe .
