We all know the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S, the established king of the UUHP / performance summer tire segment, but what about the new kid on the block, the Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02? In theory the new Continental should be a better package than the aging Michelin, so can it take its crown as the best tire on the market?

In this test I deep dive into the two tires to find out what is best on the road, what is best on the track, what has the best comfort, lowest noise, basically everything you ever needed to know about the two sets of tires!

A huge thanks to Honda and Fitment Industries. You can check out Fitment Industries here:

Can we just appreciate how bananas it is that PS4S remains dominant all these years later? Thank you for another outstanding analysis.

I was literally, no joke, googling for a comparison of these tires two hours ago and bemoaning that nobody seems to have done a decent test of the ECS 02. THANK YOU!

Picked up the Pilot Sport All Season 4's a few days ago. Im used to poverty tires, never had a good pair before in my life. Was testing my tires out and taking a few corners at speeds where Id normally expect to hear some noise out of my tires and they didnt even give me a chirp. I knew good tires made a difference but was still blown away with how good they are.

I too have been waiting for this test. Just recently swapped from 4s's to the Conti 02's and have not been disappointed with my decision. Running 245/35-19 on my golf R and like any space I can get in the wheel wells. 02 seams a bit quieter on paved roads. Mid turn I can understand the vague feel comment but once hooked to finish the turn, I feel the Conti has a bit more positive bite which helps my car feel neutral in the turns with a bit less push. Braking seams as strong with the Conti's as the 4s's and have yet to get too much aggressive driving in the rain- Thinking the slightly wider grooves on the Conti's may inspire a little more confidence against hydroplaning but we shall see. Love your test's and I completely agree that if for nothing more than the cost alone, they are well worth the gamble!

Thanks for clearing the difference up between the SC7 and the ES02! As a European I bought the SC7 over the PS4s because it was 30% cheaper! Saved myself 200 bucks and I'm quite happy with them cause there's a ton of grip and they look brand new even after 5'000km. Interesting to see the US version in comparison

I own them both. For road use they are both superb. Superb handling with very civilized ride and noise chracteristics. They should be since they are also superbly expensive and the top rated summer tire for each brand. I had to replace one of the rear Contis on my GLS 580. When I saw the price of the 305, I almost wept😂

A lot of us are using one or the other of these tires as "rain tires" in autocross and time trial competition that requires 200tw tires (i.e. no dedicated track tires) because they are so good in the rain. I would love to see a comparison of them on a wet track, including their respective hydroplane resistance. Love your reviews! Thanks.

Thank you for taking my request! I've cross-shopped these tires forever and never found a real comparison!

Continental has really grown so much in the last few years. I usually try to stick with either a new design or at least one that moves fast because around here if you try to buy a set of anything that isn't extremely popular they roll you out a set of tires made 5 years ago that has sat stacked for the last few years in a warehouse lol

Got some continental extremesport02 on my 996 C2 and I love them ! Smooth, precise very good grip on Dry and Wet, great on braking. Will buy them again.

I tried the contis this spring on my Dodge Viper. Saved $480, and love the tires!

I've had the 4S for about 5 months now. I've had to get used to the first few moments at the initial part of the turn where the tire has "to get settled". The first time this happened, it caught me off guard, and I felt that I was going to understeer badly, but it was not the case. Once at the limit, the tire tends to understeer (2018 Focus ST Mk. 3.5). But it is quite safe at the limit. Kudos to both manufacturers for engineering great performance tires.

Another enjoyable, great review for tire freaks... like me. 👍👍👈

P.S. Because of this channel, my cars are fitted with Kumho, Michelin (4S & XClimate 2), Continental, & Bridgestone. Happy? Very much so!

Just put 19 inch conti 02 on my Audi S4. They are beasts and the price difference makes conti the clear winner for me. Great video btw.

I got 60K miles on my Michelin PS4S, rotated every 5K at 35 PSI. Grip was out of this world, but after 45K miles, wet grip starts to dwindle and noise starts to creep in. At 60K miles, you'll start to hear rumbling tire noise which is the reason I have to buy new tires. I got twice the mileage warranty on my set, will buy again when the economy is right.

Im on my second set of the PS4S in 43, 000 miles after steering clear of Michelin for two decades. I'm glad my tire shop, former track buddies, and Jon convinced me to try them. Not disappointed at all.

I ran the Michelin PS4S a few years ago during a track day and it did superbly well at UMC during ISS in super hot weather. Had good turn in then some mush but once it dug in and I pushed it through it was awesome! 30k miles later and they're still super good letting me dig the car in through corners. But now I've got a new option to consider with this new Continental 👀. But then again a full race tire is also competing to be the replacement
