we saw 4 TWISTERS irl | shaun goes storm chasing

Not only did we experience seeing FOUR TORNADOES (not including a rain-wrapped one), but we FOUND OURSELVES IN ONE! Click to watch exactly what it was like during my week of storm and twister chasing!

Mindy felt bad leaving me home with the younger kids while I went to Everest Base Camp in April, so she bought me a week of storm chasing for my birthday a few weeks later. I was super shocked when I opened her gift, as this has been on my bucket list for like FOREVER!

The week is really without a plan. There really is no daily schedule, and each day's drive was determined only by the forecasted weather conditions in any of the 9 midwestern US states and driving distance. The tour week started in OKC, and up through Kansas and into Colorado, back through Kansas and up into Nebraska and over to Iowa, and then down through Missouri and back through Kansas, then back into Oklahoma, then down into Texas, and back up to OKC where the tour ended.

It was on Day 4 where we selected a storm system up in Eastern Nebraska and into SW Iowa where we spent a good 2-3 hours witnessing several tornadoes form, and even GET CHASED BY ONE! Once it got close enough to us, we could all feel our ears pop due to the change in barometric pressure! We could see that we were in the outer band of that one, with strong winds and rain hitting the van. It was wild!

Of the four tornadoes we saw, the one at 10:08 that you can see clearly in this video, the one with what looks like small twisters in it, was the Greenfield IA Tornado. This twister later became one of the strongest tornadoes ever recorded in history, an EF4 category rating with winds surpassing 300mph!

This storm chasing tour was one of the most unique and educations experiences I have ever had! I learned so much about the weather, how it is forecasted, and how these super cells form. I also understand the danger of tornadoes, and how unpredictable they are. Super excited to see AI introduced to storm forecasting to hopefully help get warnings out to people even sooner!

The people I was on the tour with were so incredibly amazing and friendly, especially in helping me know what was going on since I was a greenie and they were pros! One of the tours members, Tania, helped me with this video by providing her clips from the back of the van since I could only film tornadoes from the front passenger side of the van. Plus, experiencing middle America this way was a truly awesome experience!

🚨 WARNING:🚨 Please do not go storm chasing on your own! This is incredibly DANGEROUS and there is huge potential for car wrecks that will keep you stranded in a tornado's path! Only tour with trained professionals, preferably experienced meteorologists like we did, who not only understand the weather super well, but are calm under pressure and can plan escape routes using paper maps, etc.

Hey Shaun, my wife and I are about to head over from Aust to chase some storms for the first time so ive been sitting here doing nightshift watching various tornado videos. The one you put together is the best one ive come across to date, no bullshit, well produced, gives a realistic idea of what life may be like both chasing and after hours on our seven day tour. My sister asked me if I would come babysit her boy this last May. I said in tornado season? Are you crazy!?! I still came, but I did A LOT of praying! There were some pretty crazy storms, thankfully nothing came of them. 🙏🏻🙏🏻 I flew into Dallas and drove up so I saw the damage of that tornado in the last part of your video. It was heartbreaking to witness. 😢
