I’m in Yr 7 right now. It is my last day of school when I’m writing this and I’m going into Yr 8 next year. For any current Yr 6’s about to go to Yr 7, DO NOT WORRY. Homework will get harder, and there will be older students there who will likely be a bit rude, but just ignore them. Some people may think telling a teacher is better, but in secondary school, it could make it worse. Just ignore them and go on with your usual day. Also, you will likely be given a timetable that shows all the lessons you will be having each day. I’m primary, it’d be certain days for certain lessons, but for secondary it’s kind of just whenever they feel like doing the lessons. For the boys, try not to act ‘smart’ and tell everyone that you’re smart. Just act like you’re normal and don’t go around flexing on everyone otherwise you’d get enemy’s. For girls, start to talk to more people that you have similarities with, and DO NOT wear lots of make up.

Those are all I can say for now, if anyone has any other questions, I will answer them later.

Advice for year 7's by a year 10:
-Make sure to have a kit for emergences. Pack pads and tampons if you started your period early.
-On the first day of year 7, be polite and friendly to others.
-Please do not act like you're cool. I made that mistake and I regretted it so bad. Don't act like you're special or popular -you're like everyone else. You will make fun of yourself and it will destroy your self-esteem and confidence.
-If you get lost on the first day of school, please ask for help. Even when you're shy, teachers are really nice when you're new so don't be afraid to ask for directions.
-Be prepared and organised. Make sure you got everything you need before going to school.
-Everything will be okay. It's okay to fall behind during your first term. Make sure to ask for help if you don't understand anything and try to catch up the lessons. It will help for the future.

Good luck on your first day of secondary school!

year 7 was very interesting overall, there were a lotttt of fights (very stupid reasons) and don't apply too much makeup either. Friend group drama was certainly a lot but do not let that affect your studies. Have a nice year xxx

Year 7 was so exciting and fun. Make the most of your time being 11/12. I regret wearing 'cover up' makeup (the wrong shade 😂). If you want to wear make up maybe mascara and a lip balm. Make sure your uniform is not really big on you (mine was 10inches too big) - and if it is ask if you can get better fitting as it might look ridiculous. Think about what you want to achieve this year but don't change your personality. Friends should like you for you. Don't change yourself for others to be 'popular'. In my experience by the end of the year they are considered incredibly annoying. A really important point to make here is *be respectful to teachers and try to immerse yourself in the subject*. These people might teach you for the next 5-7 years (depending if your school has a sixth form). They will help you if you ask and guide you the whole way.
If you are excited, you have reason to be. It's amazing and the next chapter of your life. Immerse yourself in the subjects and make friends that should be loyal to you your whole life!!
If you're nervous you need to remember that everyone is in the same boat and you're sailing to try and get to the same destination. There may be raging storms along the way, rainy days. But trust me you will find your place on deck. The sun will shine on the waters if you hope for it!
( also girls. Make sure you have a trusted female teacher to ask for pads/tampons if needed. They will be glad to help. But if you can keep spares in a cute bag in your backpack so you or your friends can use them. You might want to ask the council to provide them in bathrooms)

Hope these helped someone out there ❤

(These points are my opinion. Please add on others in the comments but don't criticise, it's my experience ❤❤)

My tips:

1.Be kind.
2.Friends are going to come and go if they do you wouldn't want them in your life at more anyway and if it's meant to be then they WILL come back I am going into yr 10 and have gone through alot with friends just remember everyone goes through it
3. Obviously don't get yourself stressed ab it but it's good if u have an idea in yr 7 of what your going to pick for GCSEs so u can focus on those subjects, I didn't and I am fine but I think it would of been better if I did but dw ab It too much
4.try your best at everything
5. There will be people who make comments at u but literally just brush it off and don't react honestly it's not worth it

I’m going into year 9 in September so Im gonna give tips for both genders :)

GIRLS:

I’m the first few weeks don’t wear a lot of makeup to look pretty as some people may take this as a bad sign and bully or make fun of you.

But it’s ok to wear some makeup if you want, although some school dont let pupils wear make up.

This is an important one, please don’t roll up your skirt way far up as you could get dress coded or told off by a teacher.

Ignore the older pupils if they are annoying you, In my school this is mainly the case for boys as when It was the start of year 7 for me I got a lot of people randomly screaming in my face :/

BOTH:

Don’t be the class clown or be disrespectful to your teachers. I know I probably sound like a teacher right now and I can agree some teachers are really annoying but if your nice to them, they are nice to you and if you mess up they will brush it off as a mistake unlike some other rude pupils I knew who always got in trouble, just stay on the good side of the teacher and they normally won’t suspect you.

when your taught about puberty and all that stuff, dont act immature and make jokes, I know it’s the weirdest topic ever having to listen to your teacher explain all this.

If you need help it’s always ok to speak to a member of staff or a designated elder pupil as I know this jump from primary school to secondary may seem scary at first but trust me you will get used to it

DO YOU HOMEWORKS!
I made the mistake of normally leaving my homework’s till last minute, doing art projects and maths homework at 1AM 😅 and I did face the consequences of no sleep and sometimes told off by the teacher. But in the first month or two of year 7 the teacher know you can be scared or feel that this new routine is very unusual and will give you a few extra chances to get on track,

QUICK POINTS:

Don’t be the class clown or the pupil who is always known for getting in trouble as you new teachers either throughout the year or in the next year up will suspect you to mess up and you will most likely be on the bad side of the teacher by the start.

Don’t make jokes in class

Pay attention (I also didn’t do this one and lost marks in my homework’s and exams)

REVISE EARLY - for year 7-8 I would probably start to revise from 3-4 weeks before your exams depending on how familiar you are with each class.

Keep your uniform clean.

BOYS:

Dont make fun of the girls just because you may think they are “weaker” trust me they can gossip and you will get a lot of girls against you.

Tuck your shirt in, you don’t need to it outside during break or lunch because I know it gets hot in uniform during summer time, but tuck your shirt in and clean up your uniform before you go into class as a few of my friends have been doubtlessly told off for this.

Don’t try to act cool or mature to impress to girls, it’s not worth it and they only reason they might be laughing is because they think your not acting mature or being stupid.

So that’s some information (actually a Good amount) for people going into year 7, just let me know if you have any extra questions and I’ll try to answer them all the best I can :)

As a Year 9 just don’t worry about it there will be more bully’s there but it’s fine just ignore them and a tip to
make friends is to try and do stuff their way sometimes, Remember you won’t be friends with people
immediately but everyone’s in year 7’s new, give people a chance and then you can see how you feel about them you will make friends anyway your all trying to figure it out that year so then it would be fine for everyone regardlessy.
Good luck everyone’s going to year 7.

I’m in a much older year but I have some tips:
-don’t be rude to older years because they will be even ruder back
-don’t act all cool now and drop all of ur primary friends for popular kids, we can all see ur trying to get attention
-you don’t need to study at all if you just pay attention in class and do ur hw
-you can wear makeup just not foundation or anything (depends on school and parent) don’t bully other girls for there makeup
-don’t judge others it’s not ur business
-be nice but be confident
-don’t even speak bad about someone older than u in front of older years because our ears will hear
