‘Don’t be that guy’: ‘Powerful’ anti-sexual violence video targets men

Показать описание
A campaign tackling rape, sexual assault and harassment is directly targeting men in Scotland.

That Guy is asking Scottish men to talk to their friends, fathers, brothers and sons about behaviour that is damaging to women – as well as looking at themselves.

In a video viewed nearly 400,000 times, men are asked if they have ever whistled at a woman in the street, felt as if buying dinner meant they were owed something, or considered taking someone drunk back to theirs.

Bit of a sexist advert. Do people actually think that women don't do the majority of these things as well?

"sexual violence starts long before you think it does."

No it doesn't.

None of those things intrinsically lead to sexual violence & pretending they do so you can fill a victimhood political quota does actual victims of sexual violence a disservice, by devaluing sexual violence.

Id be flattered if someone offered to buy me dinner, stop dividing people with this divisive drivel.

It shows a lot how very little was heard from men after Sarah Everard was killed, but now that people are calling out the dickheads who behave in that manner they’ve gotten all defensive. Open your eyes

If I call my wife “Doll”, or she has some new clothes, and I say “nice”, some poor unfortunate white knight simp is going to instantly regret calling me out.

this isnt about generalising all men, this goes to those who make women feel uncomfortable. say what you will but i was first catcalled at 7 - clearly a child - by a group of 20-30 year olds. if you dont do any of these things, thats great and this has nothing to do with you. but dont be oblivious to how this impacts us - i cant even feel safe in my own room after my dad's friend called me "sexy" at 16.

If you show this to a normal guy he says: yes of course you don't do that. So my question to all these people who respond badly to this is: what did you do wrong that this offends you?

Does anybody actually think sexual offenders care about this message?

Comparing wife beaters to people having banter.

these comments are so obnoxious and really do show how normalised this type of behaviour is towards women. telling your pal that you'd do a girl isn't funny banter, it's harassment, yet you don't want to say you're guilty now that you've been called out on it

There are plenty of men who get raped by women as well. If this was targetting a particular race or culture, it would be seen as racist. Why isn't this video considered sexist? I consider it extremely sexist. It puts the blame on one gender and basically says women can't rape a man.

“ Sexual violence starts long before you think it does” But where does it come from when you’re the Type of man that possibly would commit the Sexual violence what’s the root? Narcissism? psychopathic Disorder? Men who think normally, who have empathy who aren’t very sick, wouldn’t commit sexual violence, right? Do men who chose to commit rape are bad to the bone? How do we save the type of men who are struggling with their mental illness, or emotions are hostility towards women from committing such horrible crimes, so they can find a woman of their own or happiness in their own lives, instead of ended up in prison, or single, and alone with a sex offender registry?

I'm interested how most of the comments criticizing the video are about only the first 15 seconds. No one seems to be discussing anything said after that.
The point I take from the video is that harassment is on a scale, and the first few things they say might sound harmless enough, but knowing where the line between what's ok and not ok is isn't always clear.
