What is the difference between Photoshop on iPad versus Photoshop on PC or Mac? This video discusses the main differences between the products without diving into too much detail.

P.s. The drawing monitor in this video was sponsored by Artisul. However, they did not pay me anything for this video and I don't get revenue from the link.

You asked for opinions on the iPad Photoshop. In my opinion, this video is misleading. It leaves the impression that you are defending the iOS Photoshop by claiming it is more intuitive for the iPad format and that users shouldn't judge it for not living up to the desktop version. I know the title suggests a comparison of the two full-featured Photoshops, but it focuses on praising the bare-bones iOS version for its gestures instead of providing a list of the missing features. It isn't an issue of not living up to expectation. It is the culmination of Adobe advertising it as being the desktop version before release, saying Photoshop was finally on the iPad at launch, lacking features that are digital art studio standards, those missing features are present in all of the competitive iOS art studios and have been in them for probably close to 5 years, and the kicker is that they are charging a monthly subscription that costs as much as the one time purchase knockoffs. I have Procreate, Infinite Painter, ArtRage, Art Studio Pro, Affinity Photo, Affinity Design, Art Set 4, Paintstorm, Concepts, Realistic Paint Studio, iArtbook Pro, Clip studio Paint, Inspire Pro, Pixelmator, Linea Sketch, Medibang, Ibis, the free Autodesk Sketchbook, and Photoshop/Fresco. I can confidently say that the iOS Photoshop is an utter joke compared to the iOS art studios that people used while talking about how they wished Photoshop was on iOS. They wished for it, because they thought the Desktop Photoshop was superior. When Adobe made the big announcement that Photoshop was here, people were expecting an upgrade, but they ended up paying a subscription fee for a downgrade. That's my opinion on the app.

Great Comparison Video...I think with the constant iPad Performance Upgrades, Adobe Photoshop on iPad with future updates will be more powerful as Adobe Illustrator on iPad.. I would love to shift complete workflow to iPad in future if possible..

Maybe I’ll try Ps again. It always left me out in the cold. Maybe too much history and so many features, as you said. Procreate is what got me into digital art.

My question is, must the iPad pro version have to have a PC to work? Can it be standalone? I know you have to pay monthly for the PC version to get the iPad app.

Stumbled on this video as a digital mandala maker using simple phone apps and looking for which new device to invest in. I'm a little confused on what program you're using during the mandala segments? Is this a feature within photoshop accessible with the Artisul drawing tablet? Would love more information on this!

Thank you for the broad overview but maybe you could have gone into a bit more of a detailed comparison.

Great comparison! Have been feeling very disappointed with PS Express since buying it for my phone but didn't have it on my ipad. I also realized I was paying $15 more per month for PS Express when I could get a bundle that included the PC version for $20/mo :O Can't wait to get started trying out some of your tips & tricks :)

lol... less features in a feature??? yeah right. As someone who has been using Photoshop since its inception, PS on the iPad is an embarrassment. Procreate puts PS to shame in every respect.

Thanks for this video! Good comparison! I ignored Photoshop on iPad when it first released because it was so limited, so I’m curious to see how it’s come along since then and this helps. :) thanks!

Looks like it’s a lot more capable these days. I’m still hoping Adobe continues to make it more and more capable as well as integrate well with their other tablet software, like linked smart objects and such.

Thanks!

Fundamentally floored review. You have missed most of the important options and points. Sidecar on the Mac is one area you didn’t cover and this negates all the baffling lack of functionality with iPad photoshop. And apps like Affinity photo were offering full functionality for both iPad and desktop 2 years before photoshop launched their crippled iPad version. If you want to work on photos on the iPad then photoshop lacks most of the necessary features, which baffles me. If you want to paint/draw/design on the iPad then there are much better apps like Affinity Photo/Affinity list goes on and on. Photoshop for iPad offers reduced functions for no reason seemingly when all the other competitors offer full functionality. I regularly edit layered 2-300mb image files directly on my iPad with Affinity Photo and then transfer them to my Mac via iCloud to work on them there. With the same toolset on both. If you really want to use photoshop with all the features on your iPad and you have a Mac computer then use sidecar. There are better alternatives for photoshop on iPad for any use case....And the kicker is it’s the most expensive!
