Welcome to today’s edition of the OpEx Minute, presented by EMS Consulting Group. Today we will be talking about Lean Culture.
Lean culture has been a hot topic for many years. When lean was first introduced to America, for many years, the focus had been on Lean tools. Around the time of the new millennium, the focus has shifted to culture, at least in the so-called lean community. The reason for this is that without a lean culture, a lean transformation is impossible. It can’t be done with just the tools. Perhaps people have gone too far with their dismissal of the tools and methods, but that is a discussion for another day. Let’s talk about lean culture. Lean is sometimes presented as continuous improvement and respect for people. I think this is a way to describe a lean culture. It is a culture under which team members work toward continuous improvement in an environment of respect for people.
