In this test/tutorial we will look at the recording quality of an entry level Behringer USB audio interface.
First, I will connect a dynamic microphone to the mic input, the Shure SM58, then we compare that to a budget condenser mic which uses the 48V phantom power.
After listening to the sound test you will have an idea of how these two types of microphones sound when using this interface.
Next, I walk you through the recording settings that you can select with this interface. I compare these settings against my internal sound card and an old firewire interface.
Keep in mind that this interface while supporting 48kHz recordings, it does so only at 16bit, which in my testing still delivered good results.
I tested the interface both under Windows 10 and macOS Mojave, in both cases I did not install a driver, the interface was just plugged in and worked right away.
However, under Mac, I noticed that the driver seemed to output a much stronger signal, which I believe can lead to a distorted sound when listening to music with the volume turned up all the way.
