Click on 'effects' on the bar on the left side of the screen. That should bring up a nice big list of effects in the main window. It will be called 'crop 4:3 to 16:9'

good to hear you got it working, and I hope you enjoy using it!

I will hopefully post a tutorial soon about using custom output methods, so the videos do not have to be so large.

make sure wmm is set to widescreen (16:9) mode. goto: tools->options, clicking on the 'Advanced' tab, and selecting the "16:9" aspect ratio.

Too cool! I tried it and I works. I was so tickled by this, I fell off my office chair & started to giggle uncontrollably.

I'm back on my chair and in control of myself now. Thank you for posting. It was very helpful.

make sure you are following the directions exactly. the easiest place to mess up would be saving the xml document directly into the AddOnTfx folder, which will not work. you must save it in your documents folder first, then move it to the correct folder.

make sure everything is spelled correctly. also, make sure that you are initially saving the xml file somewhere other than the new folder, because vista won't let non-administrative programs change files in protected directories.

Worked first time for me. As you say a 720p output must be used for Youtube to reconise 16:9 upload. Many thanks.

I wanted to crop a video, and could not find a way to do it in movie maker, so I sat down and figured it out.

yeha, if you look at the text that you put into the xml file, the line that says:

Point time="0.0" value="0.0, 0.125, 1.0, 0.875"

the value sets the area you want to keep. its like x-start, y-start, x-end, y-end, all from the upper left corner, and in terms of a fraction. so like, 0, 0.125, means the first point in the box to keep is at x=0 (the left edge) and y=0.125, so 12.5% down from the top.

Hopefully that makes sense

you should have one folder with an XML file inside of if (either downloaded from the webpage, or created in notepad) then you should have made a new folder in the moviemaker directory. the final step is to simply move the XML file into that newly created AddOnTFX folder. this can be done by having the two folders open next to each other, and dragging the file from one folder to the other.

I don't know. I have not seen this issue before. give it a shot, and let me know what happens

click on start, then 'Computer' Then double click on your main hard drive (should be C:) there you should see a folder called 'Program Files', and inside that, a folder called 'Movie Maker' etc...

in your case, I would just leave it in the (x86) directly, and everything should work out just fine. sorry for the slow response
