CGI VFX/3D Docu-Short: 'The Visible Void' - by David Todman
Показать описание
Our world is an illusion - a mind trick. "The Visible Void" challenges our certainties about eyesight, vision and Man"s ability to make sense of a complex world. It explores the idea that "reality" is not solid and dependable but constructed from a set of innate mental tricks. We use these to interpret light"s very limited information to maximum effect For more information, please see the details and links below:
Understanding this explains why we"re so vulnerable to trickery and confusion. But several centuries ago the same discovery opened a door to new thinking in art and science. It was the beginning of a profound journey, one that led directly to the new worlds of "virtual" reality we"re only just beginning to explore today.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR - DAVID TODMAN
By day David Todman is a computer graphics and visual effects professional. The Visible Void is intended to be the first installment in a series of films exploring our relationship to "reality" and the way ideas emerge from the world we subconsciously build around us.
"My dad was a physicist but I was considered "creative" - somehow opposite because I was musical and artistic. I never really felt this way myself. I identified really strongly with my father and I think this gave birth to a longing to make connections between the certainty of my father"s science and the uncertainty of my art. Perhaps computer graphics represented an ideal marriage of the two. But I"m far less interested in the technicalities of computer software than I am with what you can do with it: the stories you can tell and - most importantly - the things you can explain clearly in ways previously impossible. This feeds into my lifelong passion for factual filmmaking."

ABOUT THE MAKING OF "THE VISIBLE VOID"
Shot in the forests of Surrey, England, The Visible Void was a completely self-funded project by writer, producer and director, David Todman.
As a first time director David gathered together a group of professionals he"d previously befriended as a visual effects artist, hoping they might be more forgiving if he didn"t know what he was doing. They were all paid and the best equipment was brought in, shooting on 4K RED. The upside was the quality of the footage. The downside was that David went completely bankrupt and so couldn"t pay anyone to help with post-production. This meant him spending the next 3 years painstakingly completing the project himself: all the visual effects, sound design and music.
He"s vowed never to make a film that way again. But is currently researching and writing a treatment for a related series of films exploring the digital universe in more depth. David hopes someone else might finance the next project as he almost does know what he"s doing as a writer/director now.
